Hello OHHS '65 Classmates
Are you ready for Senior Spring Break in Surfside SC??? What started as a few OHHS ’65 friends getting together has developed into an annual “party” since 2008. Looks like this is our 17th year together and our final year with Kenny McConkey hosting it.
Yes, our final year with Kenny hosting is here. He has put lots of time and effort into this event each year. We know how hard it was on him visiting each establishment to sample their drinks and food. And naturally he had to see if the bands were dance worthy. It was a hard job but Kenny met the challenge each year. 
If you have previously attended, you know the general routine. We starts when the first 2 people arrive in Surfside and the jokes, smiles and shenanigans begin. The first official start is on Thursday night at Scottys. Then each day/night there is something planned. Finding establishments to party in is still a challenge, having enough staff is still an issue. But then again when you are walking in with a group of 50 it is overwhelming for some establishments.
Also Kenny will need assistance in getting some things ready for the Sunday party at his home. Jack and I plan to arrive on Tuesday evening so if you are available for assistance on Wed/Thur let me or Kenny know.
Thank you all for letting me know you will be in attendance. The names are on our website and also on the OHHS 65 Facebook page. Looks like we will have 50 in attendance.
Thursday evening 4/18/24 – Scotty’s This is how we have started Sr Spring Break for the past 16 years. There will be a DJ and karaoke. Honestly, after a few rounds we DO sound better.  Hopefully if we hang around long enough some of the guys from Legends will come in and sing for us. Don’t have a start time yet - TBD
Friday 4/19/24 – Free time during the day to meet in the lobby, outside on the patio, visit the beach or check out the new Surfside Pier (if open). We will be going to Sundown Sports Pub - 810 Surfside Dr - Surfside SC, as in previous years. It is considered outside. There are walls but an open roof. Don’t know what band is playing but Kenny is trying for the one we had last year. Time to be determined.
Saturday 4/20/24
New place to us - Mini Golf at Gulligan’s Island Funland – 3009 S Hwy 17, Garden City, South Carolina. Please arrive at 9:30 am so we can form teams and get your club. The shotgun start will be at 10 am sharp. I don’t have a cost at this time. All levels of ability have really enjoyed this challenge each year. Who will be the winners this year?
Kenny is also working on a place to eat after golf. TBA
As many of you know, we lost Billy Dee on December 4. Julie, his wife, will be holding a celebration of life for Bill on Saturday at Sundown from 1 to 4. Bill and his band Happy Feet band have played for us at many of our Surfside events. All are welcome to attend.

Surfside Charlie's - 800 Highway 17S ~ I don't have a time yet. We went there last year.
Sunday 4/21/24
Kenny’s Place at 2pm. This is a must for anyone attending. This is a wonderful day to celebrate our friendships and to bring to a close our time in Surfside. Barbie, our bartender, is great and will be serving up drinks agin. Those jello/pudding shots last year were a huge hit. One would do ya. The girls, and you know who you are, will get together a light appetizer table.
To help defray the cost of the food and drink at Kenny's place we are asking for everyone to chip in $10+ a person - the money can be given to Bonnie Douglas.
We usually park at the Community Center where Kenny lives, and transport people to Kenny’s Place. Hopefully we will have enough drivers to transport. We will go by our previous plans – when you arrive at the Community Center call me (Donna 602-481-0238) and someone will come to pick you up.
Kenny is also working on getting someone to play music for us. As a very special treat Kenny is hoping that himself with Bruce Kennett and Geoff Robinson will sing a few songs for us. This is the remaining guys from the Dagenites and it will be very special to many of us.
After Kenny’s place we all will head to La Trattoria – 3100 US 17 BUS – Murrells Inlet SC for our final farwell dinner. Looking forward to this meal, as LaTrattoria has always been great.
Directions to Kenny's Place - The entrance to Kenny's place is across the street from The Conch. We suggest that you go to the Community Center to park and call Donna 602-481-0238 and someone will come pick you up in the golf cart. OR if we don’t have enough golf cart people, we may ask that you drive your party to Kenny’s place and then return to the Community Center to park your car and golf cart will pick you up.
Directions for the Community Center coming from the hotel - head south on the road in front of the hotel which is Ocean Blvd/Waccamaw Drive. Make a right on Melody Lane (now last year the street sign was down) if it is still down, it is the road right after 16 Ave S. The entrance to the community is on the left BEFORE 17 Hwy Business. Tell the gate keeper you are visiting Kenny McConkey and ask for directions to the Community Center.
If you can, please help pick up before leaving for the restaurant or afterwards.
Monday
We try to get a breakfast together before we all depart for our homes. We haven’t gotten this far in planning so stay tuned for details.
As this is our last “Kenny hosted” party, lets make it a great one. Hope to see you in Surfside.
